A clip from “The Business of Being Born,” a fascinating documentary on home birth. This short segment illustrates how hospital labor and delivery procedures create their own self-fulfilling prophecies and exacerbate self-inflicted (and almost totally avoidable) risk.

start em young…Fail? Or win!
Isn’t that how half of them happen?
no joke, this would be my son’s favorite section. he’s already grown out of shotgunning formula.
I’m leaning toward “WIN.”

I want one of these.
I have two of these hooks and I honestly feel too nervous to actaully hang guitars on them. I have 3 boys running around the house and while my studio is kept locked with my guitars well out of reach of curious little hands, I still feel much more secure knowing my other babies are nustled inside the plush interior of a hard-shell case.
Yeah—that’s a consideration, for sure. I figured I’d hang it higher than a 1-yr-old could reach, but obviously that won’t last forever. I just really hate having to take it in and out of the case, taking up precious space, etc. Maybe I’ll just threaten to cut off his hands if he touches it. That sort of reasoning works well with a toddler, right?

Ditto. My boy had his one-year checkup this week and got a chicken pox vaccine. When I was a kid, if somebody in the neighborhood got it, eveyone would come over and have a party so we’d all catch it and get it over with.
A friend of my wife has an adorable little girl, and here’s a video of her stuck under a chair. Look at how she nods her head when mommy asks “Do you need some help?”
