Tumblr Custom Domain Question

We also fully support custom domains with a sub-domain other than “www”. So you can use a domain like “blog.mywebsite.com” if you’d like.

From Tumblr’s custom domain help page.

Does anyone know if I can have the tumblr setup on another folder level? As in, rather than it being hosted on www.mywebsite.com, it’s hosted on www.mywebsite.com/sdsblog, and the root site is not tumblr-formated?

Would mywebsite.com/sdsblog be the same as sdsblog.mywebsite.com (in terms of possibility)?

  1. gonzofreddie answered: When adding it to a subfolder, the subdomain only points to the subfolder. DNS sould resolve to both, assuming permissions are correct.
  2. davereed answered: Yes, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen others do it like that

  4. goldenrat1o answered: you should be able to point a subdomain (sdsblog.mywebsite.com) using the A record, to the tumblr URL.
  5. crazynutjob answered: I just googled DNS. I don’t think that would be easy because the folder isn’t part of the DNS resolution.
