Vice President Joe Biden said the Obama administration “misread how bad the economy was” and didn’t foresee unemployment levels nearing double digits, in comments likely to intensify calls for the administration to do more to counter job losses.

Last fall, Obama repeatedly said:  ”We are in the middle of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.”  And without his stimulus plan, he argued earlier this year, “our nation [would] sink into a crisis that at some point we may be unable to reverse.” “[T]he situation we face,” he said, “could not be more serious.”

Apparently, this was too optimistic.
